mass demonstration organized by the center-left opposition in the run-up to provincial elections to be held in Italy, March 28-29, held Saturday evening at the famous people in the Rome, RIA “Novosti”.

It is noteworthy that the opposition rally held the day after the 4-hour general strike in protest against the socio-economic policy of the government of Silvio Berlusconi, which took place on Friday at the call of the country’s largest national trade union – the Italian General Confederation of Labor.

At a rally concert on the Square of the People, which runs under the slogan “Democracy, rule of law, and work. Yes – the rules and rights, there is – deceit” involved the leaders of seven major opposition political parties and movements in the country, as well as representatives of many voluntary associations, civil Society and prominent cultural figures.

Demonstrators brings the total rejection of the socio-political course of the Berlusconi government, which, in their view, it leads to the curtailment of democracy, suppression of freedom and the deepening economic crisis in Italy. In this regard, many participants in the meeting called on all the left and center-left forces in the country for unity, to “turn the page of history” and “see the other Italy”.

“The phenomenon of Berlusconi is an Italian anomaly that has arisen thanks to the media, which is in his hands. He tried to force the Italians to believe that by voting for him, they will live better.” However, this was only the best for himself and his friends. Mode Berlusconi already at the gate. It’s time for resistance, “- said during a demonstration leader of” Italy of Values “, Antonio Di Pietro, who once led the famous anti-corruption operation” Clean Hands “.

Berlusconi himself called today’s demonstration of “grotesque” and sharply criticized leaders of the center-left opposition. We already know that after a week in Milan on his initiative will be an alternative mass demonstration of Right Forces, during which the participants will also seek to protect democracy and freedom in Italy, but from “extremists” and “communists”.

Local observers note that with such mass rallies leaders of the opposing political forces seeking to mobilize and unite their constituencies ahead of the March elections, which will be a critical test of the popularity of leading political parties and movements in Italy. It is particularly bitter struggle broke out for 18% of voters who, according to recent polls, have a persistent desire not to participate in the upcoming ballot.

According to multiple media reports, the FBI is probing accusations made against the Lower Merion School District by Michael and Holly Robbins of Penn Valley, Pa. The Robbins family filed a lawsuit alleging the district spied on their son, Blake, who is a student at Harriton High School, using a webcam included on a school-issued laptop. The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is looking into the accusations as well.

According to the suit, the district provided laptops to high school students as part of a technology initiative, and did not notify families the laptops were equipped with Webcams that could be turned on remotely. The family alleged in the suit they did not learn of the capability until school officials accused Blake Robbins of “improper behavior in his home” and cited as evidence a photograph from the Webcam embedded in the laptop. Full Story

But now a group of neuropsychologists claims it has found a task that can add points to a person’s IQ – and the harder you train, they say, the more you gain.

So-called “fluid intelligence”, or Gf, is the ability to reason, solve new problems and think in the abstract. It correlates with professional and educational success and it appears to be largely genetic. Read More

The work on rats, by a team from Princeton University found a lack of sleep affected the hippocampus, a brain region involved in forming memories.

The research in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science showed a stress hormone causes the effect.

A UK expert said it would be interesting to see if too little rather than no sleep had the same consequence.
